Electrician starter kit

At the Tools in the Trades Bootcamp through Supporting Ontario Youth, I had the opportunity to learn how to perform various electrical and plumbing tasks. As part of the workshop, we were provided with some tools to take home with us to help us start our careers.

If you’re going to this workshop, I suggest you close the tab so you can get a proper gift-opening experience. Also, depending on the workshop you go to, the tools could be different.

Below is a picture of the contents of the electrical toolkit I received. Everything was provided except the colourful electrical tape—I had purchased that on my own previously, the bag just has a dedicated tape holder so I wanted to use it.

• A sturdy bag for carrying tools with a dedicated electrical tape holder. The bag can be carried 3 ways:
  • as a suitcase with the provided handle
  • as a shoulder bag (tool purse!) with the included shoulder strap
  • as a tool belt with the included belt (which is too big for me!)
• Torpedo level, for checking for level and plumb as well as 45° angles
• An auto-locking tape measure—this one is a bit heavy so I won’t be carrying this one around, I have a smaller one I’ll carry around instead
• Twisting wire connectors—only 3 shown, I ate the rest (just kidding, even though they do look like candy, I’ve stored the rest away in my tool/material organizers)
• Diagonal cutting pliers
• Lineman pliers
• Needle-nose pliers
• Adjustable tongue-and-groove pliers
• Robertson #1 and #2 screwdrivers
• Cushioned handle screwdrivers: flat head and Philips. These feel really nice to use because of texture and cushion of the rubber
• Ideal Lil Ripper wire stripper for removing NM cable jackets
• Ideal T-stripper for removing insulation from solid and strander conductor wires
